Do a SWOT analysis for your business
Here are suggested questions to help you begin working on your business plan. Feel free to develop your own.
STRENGTHS
What are your assets?
What do you do best?
What do you like to do most?
Do you have happy customers who will give you great references?
Do you have an entrepreneurial personality?
WEAKNESSES
What skills do you need to develop more?
Do you have the money you need to launch your business and still cover your living costs?
If you have children, do you have adequate childcare?
How about transportation?
Do you have the discipline to work two or more jobs and stick to a business plan?
Are you willing to ask for and accept help when you need it?
OPPORTUNITIES
What is the market for your services?
When do you need to make your move?
Who are your potential customers?
THREATS
What is the economic situation?
How long can you keep working toward your goals with your present resources?
Do your family needs conflict with your plans?
Who is your competition?
Answers to these questions will help you work through the SBA business plan tutorial (click link on top left of the blog). If you get stuck, make a note about it and keep going. Call me or bring your questions to class.
As you develop your business plan, think about these questions:
1) What is your business? Describe it in 15 seconds or less.
2) What will make you stand out from the competition?
3) What do you need from the class to help you succeed?
